On June 8 th , Haywood Spay/Neuter announced the start of Roxy’s Fund at their successful Yappy Fund raiser at Maggie Valley Country Club. Roxy, who was the “keynote speaker," is a PTSD service dog for Justin Tucker, a disabled vet. She met all the attendees at Yappy Hour and made quite an impression. She went through Haywood Spay/Neuter’s Operation Pit program. Operation Pit provides free surgery, rabies vaccine and micro chip for those pit or pit/mix owners who qualify.
Roxy’s Fund will be somewhat different as it will provide free surgery, rabies and micro chips for those veterans who qualify for the program. For those veterans who do not qualify income wise, they will receive a free micro chip if they send their dog through Haywood Spay/ Neuter’s low cost spay/neuter program.
Roxy is a finalist for the American Humane Hero Dog Award contest in the Service category. To vote for Roxy please click here: http://herodogawards.org/dog/roxy-the-ptsd-service-dog/ . You may vote for her once daily until July 11, 2018. Justin, her owner was wounded while serving in Iraq during the Gulf War. Roxy helps him deal with his PTSD.
Haywood Spay/Neuter has been providing low cost spay/neuter services to the community and animal wellness programs since its incorporation in 1987. With a current count of 23,000 and counting dogs and cats provided sterilization surgery since 2003, the organization is still trying to make the public realize that cat and dog overpopulation in the county can only be solved with spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership. Seventeen female cats were returned from a recent spay/neuter clinic; 7 were in heat and five were pregnant! Spay by 4 months and do your part in preventing unwanted litters.
